15 Pointless Movie Sequels That Just Copied The Original

14. Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian

The Original: Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) is a night watchman at the American Museum of Natural History who discovers that the museum's exhibits come to life at night, and he struggles to maintain order as they run amok while a gang of disgruntled employees (Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, and Bill Cobbs) attempt to frame him. The Sequel: Though Larry isn't a security guard in Battle Of The Smithsonian, the premise is pretty much the same as the original: historical figures and monsters run wild via CGI wizardry and there's a plot revolving around an Egyptian tablet you absolutely won't remember after leaving the cinema. What's different? Well, the action moves to the Smithsonian and there are a few new characters (Amy Adams' Amelia Earheart and Hank Azaria's villainous Kahmunrah being the stand-outs), but the shell premise is pretty much exactly the same. Hardly a terrible movie, just not particularly imaginative, which is just what audiences should expect from the upcoming third movie, Secret Of The Tomb.
