15 Pointless Movie Sequels That Just Copied The Original

10. Basic Instinct 2

The Original: So-sexy-it-hurts, murderous black widow Catherine Tramell (Sharon Stone) ensnares Detective Nick Curran (Michael Douglas) into her web, in a deliciously trashy mixture of sex and violence that became one of the most iconic and controversial movies of the 1990s. The Sequel: It's the same movie, but there's no Paul Verhoeven directing, it's set in the UK, and Sharon Stone is now 15 years older. The core plot is identical: it begins with Tramell killing someone famous (a football player, played by Stan Collymore), she's investigated for it, and she then uses her sexuality to stitch up a professional attached to the case (this time David Morrissey's psychiatrist Dr. Glass). And of course, in the end, Tramell wins. Unsurprisingly, the wildly convoluted narrative was panned by critics, and audiences, not particularly enthusiastic about seeing a near-50 Stone in the nude, didn't turn up to see it.
