15 Predictions For Next Summer's Biggest Movies
7. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Is The Lowest-Grosser Of The Series
The Prediction: Coming six years after the previous movie, the fifth entry into the swashbuckling franchise proves the bubble to be very much burst. With the recent flop of Alice Through the Looking Glass confirming that Johnny Depp doesn't print money on his own, Dead Men Tell No Tales will be the lowest-grosser of the series to date, though will probably still pull in a not-disastrous $500-600 million.
Why It Might Not Happen: Don't under-estimate a movie audience's love for pirates, and specifically Johnny Depp in the Jack Sparrow role even if he may not be a draw by name alone anymore.
The sheer nostalgic appeal (yes, it's really been 13 years since the first movie) could carry this one over the top and ensure it's another billion-dollar grosser...or at least more successful than the original's franchise-low $654.3 million gross.
