15 R-Rated Comic Book Movies That Need To Happen After Deadpool

5. Pretty Deadly

Pretty Deadly Comic
Image Comics

It’s a rare thrill and kind of a pain when you come across a comic that so stubbornly defies explanation it easily wriggles out from the grasp of any words that you hope to entangle it with. Such is the case with Pretty Deadly, the Image Comics series by Kelly Sue DeConnick, Emma Ríos, and Jordie Bellaire.

This mythological Western sees Ginny, the daughter of Death, stalking the plains in search of a blind man known as Fox and the mysterious young girl he travels with. It’s been billed as the storytelling of Sandman meets the brutality of Preacher. It's a surreal world that's incessantly fascinating and endlessly fantastical.

Onscreen, Pretty Deadly has the potential to be the ultimate feminist Western, on par with Tommy Lee Jones' extremely underrated 2014 gem, The Homesman - except with much more mythology, gore and general violence.
