10. The Twist
Its often the case in detective movies that the more simple explanation for what is happening is disregarded for something much grander and interesting. However continuing its theme of subverting all your expectations; Hot Fuzz takes the complicated explanation and replaces it with something quite preposterous, blind sighting, humorous and has the potential to make you never trust a Neighbourhood Watch member again. In keeping with the films bizarre tone, the revelation that the Villages chief inspector is the head of a murderous gang of elderly people is a plot turn, no-one could really see happening; and is made all the funnier because of its believability. Well...Not quite. I doubt in sleepy Gloucestershire villages there are murderous gangs of elderly; but the passion that older people seem to have for their towns, as well as the hatred they have for anyone who wrongs it has a certain resonance with us all and makes this plot twist all the funnier for it.
