15 Reasons Jurassic World Was Absolutely Perfect

6. It Doesn't Take Itself Too Seriously

Jurassic Park was never an overly serious franchise. Sure the stakes are high, but think of all the funny lines and moments from the original, like "hold on to your butts" or practically anything that comes out of Jeff Goldblum's mouth. Spielberg's film has dozens of genuinely laugh out loud moments to break up all the tension.

The same can be said about Jurassic World, and the film had the audience laughing out loud a whole bunch of times all throughout. There are a lot of nice moments of comic relief, a few of which come from Jake Johnson's character. He's given some of the most amusing lines, but he also knows to never take them too over the top. There's a particularly great moment between him and his coworker played by Lauren Lapkus that is absolutely hilarious and had the crowd going nuts.

The movie in general also has a good amount of fun, quippy lines, taking itself seriously enough for how high the stakes are but also never too seriously. Colin Trevorrow gets that this is a Spielberg action/adventure popcorn flick, and there should always be a sense of fun to that sort of thing. This isn't The Dark Knight. Even though people are getting eaten, audiences should still have a good time and be laughing and smiling throughout, and Trevorrow fully understands that balance.
