15 Reasons Jurassic World Was Absolutely Perfect
5. It's Really Emotional
If you grew up on Jurassic Park, it's really hard not to get a little choked up throughout Jurassic World, and Colin Trevorrow plays to our emotions in an incredibly effective way. In addition to the action, Jurassic Park was always also about the smaller, more tender scenes, like with Alan and the kids in the tree watching the Brachiosauruses.
Jurassic World does the same sort of thing, although it doesn't have quite as many small moments as the original. Still, there are one or two sequences which definitely had a lot of the audience tearing up but without being manipulative. First of all, just seeing the fully functioning park in the opening act is already emotionally overwhelming, and when that classic theme kicks in during a helicopter shot of the entire island, it feels like stepping back in time to being a kid again.
There's also a sequence towards the middle of the film which calls back heavily to something from the first movie, and using the classic piano theme in conjunction with that sends chills up the spine. With all of these moments that brilliantly tap into our connection to this franchise, and with some nice tender scenes between characters to break up the action, Jurassic World is a movie with a lot of heart. It's not all about the dinosaur kills.
