15 Reasons Jurassic World Was Absolutely Perfect
3. The Dinosaur Effects Are Great
The special effects were another major concern for a lot of people, with the worry being that the new movie would be too reliant on CGI. The original made good use of animatronics, creating actual, practical dinosaurs to put in front of the camera, but those are getting more and more rare in Hollywood films. So how would the look of World stack up?
Well, there is a good amount of CGI use here, but it all looks pretty solid all things considered. With the exception of one or two brief shots here and there that are a bit off, at no point do you process that these dinosaurs are not actually in front of the camera, and that's a huge accomplishment for a film made largely of special effects.
Plus, there actually are some animatronics in the movie, although they're used somewhat sparingly. Mostly it seems like they're present whenever a human actually interacts with a dinosaur like by placing their hand over one of the creatures. The animatronics look really convincing in those moments, and they're just as impressive as they were in the original film. And in terms of the CGI, just the fact that it isn't abundantly obvious what was CGI and what was practical means Trevorrow did his job.
