15 Reasons Tim Burton’s Batman Is Better Than Chris Nolan’s The Dark Knight

2. Why So Serious?

Another reason Burton's Batman is far more of an enjoyable experience is because it's not afraid to be a little lighthearted and inject some comedy to give the audience a break from the more tense occasions. I'm not talking about rubbish like Joel Schumacher inflicted on us with his ''Batcard'' or cheesy lines like ''Chick's dig the car!'' I'm talking about Batman telling Vicki Vale that she weighed a little more than 108lbs after the grappling line got stuck or when Bruce Wayne is trying to tell Vale that he is Batman and frustratingly mouths ''I'm Batman, I'm Batman'' under his breath when he cant find the right words. And when the Joker asks Bob for his gun and shoots him with it. Batman 89 is full of memorable moments like this because Burton wanted the audience to have a good time. The comedy felt organic, unlike the horrible ''Nice coat'' line in Batman Begins. Nolan's films are serious by design and on the rare occasion he allowed a funny moment or line to creep in, it misfired worse than a Gotham City police officer. However, there were lots of unintentional funny moments. Who didn't laugh when Batman was trying to get Rachel to relax by shouting ''STAY CALM, YOU'VE BEEN POISONED!'' or Alfred's creepy fantasy of going to the same restaurant and sitting at the same table and in the same chair to see Bruce happy. And it was hard not to wet yourself when Batman was screaming ''WHERE IS SHE??'' in his best nuisance sex caller voice. Nolan's scripts had a lot of problems and being overly serious was a big one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FBQetJqAwk
