15 Recent Horror Movies Destined To Become Halloween Essentials
9. Evil Dead
Now this is how you remake a horror classic: take an original concept, don't break what ain't broken - just simply contemporise and then terrorise. It's an effective approach from director Fede Alvarez (him again), but one that really works here.
The film is a gorehounds delight, with Alvarez taking his cues from Sam Raimi's original ensuring those signature moments are faithfully splattered back onto the screen, but this time everything has been cranked up to eleven. We still have a group of teens shacked up in cinema's creepiest cabin, but everything about this reboot is nastier and muckier, from visceral make up effects, unflinching self mutilation to an even weirder tree assault scene, this is a film that simply doesn't stop bashing the senses. It's bloody gory too, if that hadn't been made abundantly clear.
For those that really want to be put off their candy corn on Halloween, this one is best enjoyed in its extended edition form.
