Curse Of Chucky
Blumhouse

In 2010, director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell set an exciting precedent by giving us this haunted house movie with a twist.

Despite being sprinkled with light praise upon its release, this jolting little gem has grown in popularity and, thanks to two strong sequels, Wan and Whannell's effort has turned into a bona fide franchise.

The film is everything a horror should be, with events starting slow and creepy, before turning into a full on fright fest. Plot wise, it certainly escalates, seeing a family go from being mildly terrified, to desperate when faced with their son being sucked into a demon-infested astral plain.

The story is pleasingly offbeat, but what makes this film so effective on a crisp autumn night is the set pieces - they are insane. From the dancing boy all the way to a final third that is akin to being on one messed up ghost train, this is a joyride that you need to take.
