15 Rejected James Bond Themes You Didn't Know Existed

11. Blondie's "For Your Eyes Only"

https://youtu.be/Y2Y-hCydiXA No Bond theme has never been recorded by a female-lead band but in 1981 they came very close. Blondie were lined up to work with composer Bill Conti on For Your Eyes Only as the man behind the Rocky soundtrack was drafted in to replace an "unavailable" John Barry. With the transatlantic punk pioneers on vocals and a new composer at the helm a fresh change was on the cards - but producers felt nervous and weren't impressed with what they heard and hit the panic button. Maybe they felt Blondie weren't buying in to the commercial nature of Bond songs or maybe they had no clue what Debbie Harry was crooning about:
"We're chasing an echo in sonic 3-D, If I laugh without joking make believe."
What?? Ultimately Cubby Broccoli felt more comfortable with the melancholic version of the theme made famous by rising star Sheena Easton, who'd topped the US charts a year earlier with the cheery Morning Train. Having been catapulted into the spotlight three years previous Blondie were close to burn-out and they quickly stuck their For Your Eyes Only track on their sixth studio album Hunter before taking a seventeen year break.
