15 Sad Movies To Netflix And Cry To

13. Breathe

Andrew Garfield Breathe
Bleecker Street

Released in 2017, Breathe garnered positive reviews on the film festival circuit but it ultimately bombed at the box office. Breathe followed the hugely successful Me Before You by only a few months and this could've led to audiences lack of interest in this film as the two share plot similarities. That being said, Breathe shouldn't be dismissed.

Breathe follows the real-life story of Robin Cavendish (Andrew Garfield) who falls ill with Polio at the age of 28 and shortly becomes paralyzed from the neck down. This all happens a few years after he marries his new wife, Diana (Claire Foy). Together, the two must come to terms with their new reality and learn to navigate Robin's condition.

Much like The Impossible, Breathe is based on true events. For this reason, this sad tale is certain bring on a tear or two. Breathe deserves more credit than that though. This is a story of resilience - of maintaining positivity in the face of adversity and for that alone, it deserves to be seen.
