15 Sad Movies To Netflix And Cry To
8. The Prince Of Egypt
The Prince of Egypt is the only animated film to appear on this list - but it certainly packs an emotional punch. Too often we consider animated films to be fun, children's stories. That isn't the case here. Created by DreamWorks in 1998, The Prince of Egypt is an adaptation of the Book of Exodus and the life of Moses.
A significant element of this film is the depiction of slavery and that is something that is never easy to watch. It's a bold move for a family-friendly film but much like The Pianist, The Prince of Egypt isn't afraid to depict some of the darkest periods in human history.
22 years after its release, The Prince of Egypt hasn't lost its appeal - a musical is soon set to open in London's West End. Who doesn't cry when they hear 'When You Believe'? Whether it's the film version or Whitney and Mariah's iconic cover, it's a tearjerker for sure.
