15 Star Trek Actors Who Died In 2019

4. Joe Knowland (Antique Store Owner)

Though an actor credited simply as "antique store owner" typically wouldn't make the cut on a list like this, Joe Knowland's brief but extremely memorable role in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home ensures he earns his spot.

The store owner buys a pair of glasses from Kirk (William Shatner) which Bones (DeForest Kelley) had given him for his birthday, offering Kirk $100, to which the Cap'n memorably replies, "Is that a lot?"

The entire scene was played perfectly, and all the more impressive given that Knowland wasn't an actor by trade, ultimately having just 10 acting credits to his name between 1979 and 1995 before retiring from the industry completely.

In addition to acting, Knowland worked in the newspaper and real estate industries, and passed away of unspecified causes on March 14 aged 88.
