When René Auberjonois passed away from lung cancer on December 8, many fans were shocked to learn that the actor who played Odo on Deep Space Nine was 79 years of age.

After all, Odo's distinctively smoothed-over face ingeniously concealed the fact that Auberjonois was well into middle-age by the time he started working on DS9, and in turn delivered one of the most unique and downright likeable characters in the entire Trek canon.

In addition to his prolific career across theater, TV, film, and voiceover, he also directed eight episodes of DS9, and even appeared as Colonel West in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country several years before winning his career-defining role on DS9.

Trek just wouldn't have be the same without him, and he'll never be forgotten.
