15 Stupid Star Wars Movie Mistakes You Probably Missed
2. R2-D2 Knows Everything - A New Hope
In the very first Star Wars film, we are introduced to C-3PO and R2-D2. As their ship is attacked and boarded by Darth Vader and his forces, Princess Leia gives R2 the Death Star plans and our robotic duo use the ship's escape pods to get down to the planet Tatooine.
After they are sold to Luke’s family by the Jawa’s, R2 wastes no time in trying to find Obi-wan Kenobi and deliver Leia’s message. Now there is nothing wrong with this sequence of events in the film itself, but it is the prequels films that cause the issues.
Turns out that R2 was the personal astromech droid of Obi-Wan’s old apprentice Anakin Skywalker, who would eventually become Darth Vader. Not only did R2 and Obi-Wan interact with each other a few times in the prequels, but they were both present for Luke and Leia’s birth In Revenge Of The Sith.
This would not only mean that R2 and Obi-Wan should recognise each other, but R2 would know that Vader is Luke’s father.
Now, this may have been a minor oversight by George and company, but it is one that has massive implications for other films in the series.
