It’s important that a cast and crew use the limited time they may have together on set to its full potential. Some filming days can go on long into the night, as multiple takes of important scenes are shot in order to get the desired outcome.
It is also because reshooting is an expensive headache for filmmakers and studios. Actors will often have other projects or obligations lined up after the initial period of filming, meaning it can be a nightmare trying to get them back on set.
So if for some reason an actor couldn’t return for filming, you would think the crew would do their best not to hide the actors absence. Well, in The Phantom Menace, they tried to do just that, but ended up failing.
After the Battle of Naboo, Chancellor Palpatine and the Jedi Council make their way to the planet. Unfortunately, Samuel L. Jackson was not available that day, and so instead, they used his stand in. If you look closely, you can clearly see his double among the other Jedi.
It’s a minor mistake, but one that the crew could have so easily avoided.
