9. The Neon Demon

With the likes of Bronson, Valhalla Rising, Drive and Only God Forgives on his CV, director Nicolas Winding Refn is known for movies that are atmospheric, brooding, very violent, and perhaps above all else very, very masculine. It should be fascinating, then, to see how Refn fares with a largely female cast on The Neon Demon, which - just to make things more intriguing - is pitched as his first horror movie.

Little has been revealed plot-wise (not that Refn's films are typically that plot-driven anyway), but it's known The Neon Demon will follow Elle Fanning's newbie model as she rises through the ranks of the LA fashion scene - which might be a more literally hellish arena than it seems. Christina Hendricks, Jena Malone and renaissance man Keanu Reeves co-star.
