14 Summer 2016 Films You Aren't Excited About (But Should Be)
8. The Legend Of Tarzan
Release Date: July 8th (UK), July 1st (US)
There doesn't seem to have been much positive buzz around this new live-action take on the time-honoured jungle adventurer. This might be down to the over-familiarity of the subject matter; perhaps it's a wariness of movies based on Edgar Rice Burroughs novels, after the John Carter fiasco; or maybe it's a sense of jungle overload, this coming so soon in the wake of Disney's live-action The Jungle Book. In any case, this isn't one we should be so quick to write off.
For starters, this is the first post-Harry Potter movie from director David Yates, who more than proved his mettle on the last four films of that blockbuster franchise; secondly, it boasts an awesome cast including Margot Robbie, Samuel L Jackson and Christoph Waltz, and what's sure to be an awe-inspiring digitally rendered animal ensemble. Let's hope Alexander SkarsgÄrd proves up to the job in the title role (he certainly looks beefy enough), and that the script from Adam Cozad and Craig Brewer breathes new life into the classic tale.
