15 Terrible Recent Movies Destined To Become Cult Classics

2. The Paperboy

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 43% Why It Sucks: A disappointing follow-up to Lee Daniels' Oscar-nominated Precious, The Paperboy is a wildly over-the-top melodrama that wears its trashiness on its sleeve, but doesn't really manage to draw any believable characters, and the plot is ultimately pretty piecemeal. It's also relatively incoherent and seems to take itself way, way too seriously for something so obviously silly. Why It'll Become A Cult Classic: Daniels' film has all the makings of a cult classic, what with its brilliant cast (including Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, John Cusack and Matthew McConaughey) who are pretty much going for broke with their demented performances. The most talked-about scene occurs when Kidman's character urinates on Efron in order to neutralise a jellyfish sting, but there are countless barmy scenes throughout (as well as Cusack's against-type performance as a murderer) which contribute to The Paperboy having all the makings of a grimy midnight movie to be screened at drive-ins the world over forever more.
