15 Things Horror Remakes Did Better Than The Original

4. Carrie - Margaret White

This one will be controversial, but it's arguable that 2013's Carrie remake offered a better incarnation of Margaret White than the 1976 film did.

Piper Laurie's performance in the original film is very strong and certainly iconic, but that version of Carrie's insane mother is essentially a hammy pantomime villain and it's impossible to understand why Carrie feels a semblance of affection towards her.

In contrast, Julianne Moore's version of the character is more nuanced and there's a palpable, understandable sense of love between the mother and daughter despite their dysfunctional relationship.

The Carrie remake is OK. It was painfully unnecessary since it added nothing to the masterful original film, but it is still a decent supernatural horror film all things considered and it did at least offer one update on the original film, largely thanks to Julianne Moore's fantastic performance.
