Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) is a brilliant and terrifying work of science-fiction horror that is one of the finest political allegories of all time. Somehow, the first remake is very good as well.

It doesn't quite reach the five-star heights of the original film, but it is still a very frightening and well-judged horror flick that interprets in a concept in a newer, but still compelling fashion. While the original felt like a Cold War thriller, this remake feels like a conspiracy thriller in the vein of movies like All the President's Men. It's also better than the original on a cinematic level.

With chilling camerawork and superb sound-design, this is more memorable on a technical level than the original which, as great as it is, was more straightforward on a visual and sound level.

The remake also has some fantastic special effects and there are some absolutely horrifying scenes of body horror here. These different elements add up to a remake that might not be quite as essential as the original, but is still one of the best horror remakes out there without a doubt.
