15 Things Only Studio Ghibli Fans Will Understand

4. When People Remind You That Nausicaa Isn't Actually Ghibli

So Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind isn€™t technically a Studio Ghibli movie, and most Ghibli fans have that one pompous friend who cannot help but remind them of this fact. It was actually released in 1984 before the creation of the studio, but that does not stop it from holding it€™s place in Studio Ghibli history. The film was the brainchild of Hayao Miyazaki himself, based on a manga he had created in 1982. Along with the help of Isao Takahata, the film was released and was a huge success, leading the two to join forces and open Studio Ghibli for business. Nausicaa might not be a Ghibli movie, but it holds all the trademarks of a well loved Miyazaki classic. A brilliant female protagonist, a battle between man and nature and beautiful character design and scenery were the original sugar, spice and everything nice that lead to the creation of the beloved Studio. Without Nausicaa there would be no Ghibli, and every Studio Ghibli fan should remember that. Also, Nausicaa€™s success catapulted another famous animator into recognition, as Hideaki Anno would soon after go on to help create the cult classic Neon Genesis Evangelion.
