15 Things You Didn't Know About Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy

It may seem that the plot for Anchorman was fairly set in stone from the start after Will Ferrell saw the documentary on Jessica Savitch. The story of a female news anchor entering a male-dominated industry and joining a team of incompetent journalists seemed like a pretty straight forward way to take the movie.

However, in an interview with The Ringer, Ferrell revealed that the original plot was quite different. The initial script for the film featured a plane full of news teams flying out to a big convention, Ron Burgundy would then try to pilot the plane himself and end up crashing it into the mountains.

Okay…it’s certainly a different direction, but you can kind of picture Burgundy doing something like that, but the script would have taken a rather surprising turn from there.

Ferrell explained:

“They clipped a cargo plane, and the cargo plane crashed as well, close to them, and it was carrying only boxes of orangutans and Chinese throwing stars. So throughout the movie we’re being stalked by orangutans who are killing, one by one, the team off with throwing stars”

Boy, that escalated quickly.
