Although it has achieved cult status now, Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy struggled to get the go-ahead and was pitched to producers almost 20 times before being picked up by DreamWorks.

This may have had something to do with the early pitches focusing on a fight for survival between news anchors and orangutans, but another issue that filmmakers faced was that DreamWorks did not see Will Ferrell as a movie star.

At the time, Ferrell was more known for his appearances in comedy skits on Saturday Night Live and was yet to make his mark in the movie industry.

But following the successes of Old School and Elf in 2003, DreamWorks revisited the script for Anchorman and decided to take a chance on the quirky comedy. Obviously the film went on to be a huge hit and Ferrell became one of the most prominent comedy actors in Hollywood with a string of successful films throughout the 2000s.
