15 Things You Didn't Know About Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy
7. Amy Adams, Maggie Gyllenhaal & Leslie Mann Were All Considered For The Part Of Veronica Corningstone
Like Brick, there was a lot of interest in the role of Veronica Corningstone and the filmmakers auditioned a long list of well-known actresses for the part.
The likes of Amy Adams, Leslie Mann and Maggie Gyllenhaal all tried out for Corningstone, but none of them were quite right for the part.
Director Adam McKay told BallerStatus about the casting process and how he thought Gyllenhaal was actually too good for the part.
McKay said:
“Maggie, I said, is going to win an Academy Awards some day and you don’t put Meryl Streep in a comedy.”
He also stated that Adams and Mann did great in their audition, but neither had the look that they were searching for. Eventually they found Christina Applegate who had the ‘wholesome’ appeal they were after, as well as the comedic timing needed for the role.
Applegate went on to star in both Anchorman movies and her portrayal of Veronica Corningstone has become one of her most celebrated performances to date.
