15 Things You Didn't Know About Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy
8. James Spader Was Desperate To Play Brick
Another surprising name linked with the part of Brick Tamland was James Spader.
Spader is known for playing eccentric characters and has had some memorable roles in recent years as Robert California in the U.S. version of The Office and as Raymond Reddington in the drama series, The Blacklist.
In 2002, Spader had appeared in the controversial erotic movie Secretary, alongside Maggie Gyllenhaal, and was looking for other unique character to add to his list of acting credits. It was around this time that the actor read the Anchorman script and apparently became obsessed with Brick and pushed hard to get the role.
As we all know, the brilliant Steve Carell was eventually given the role and played it to perfection. Even Spader would probably admit that the producers made the right choice; it’s hard to imagine Spader confessing his love of lamps in quite the same way as Carell so hilariously did.
