8. He Was The First (And Only) SNL Member To Be Nominated For Best Actor
The list of Saturday Night Live alumni is as long as it is illustrious, and despite only being part of the sketch show for a number of months, Robert Donwey, Jr. shares that billing with Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, Will Ferrell, Steve Martin, Dan Ackroyd, Billy Crystal, Chris Rock, Tina Fey, Mike Myers and even Rob Schneider. However, the one thing missing from this list was an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, and Downey, Jr. became the first to receive that particular honour in 1993, when he was nominated for his role in the Chaplin biopic. The troupe is still waiting for its first winner of the award though.
