15 Things You Somehow Missed In Shaun Of The Dead

The cause of the zombie outbreak in Shaun Of The Dead is never explicitly revealed. In fact, whenever someone in the film is about to offer an explanation for the outbreak, they always get cut off.

However, a radio broadcast early on in the movie may have subtly given us the answer. As Shaun is walking to the shop, we overhear a news report on the radio, which reveals that ‘a space probe re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere broke up over England.’

This is nothing for any of the characters in the movie to be immediately alarmed by, but the story is very similar to the theorised cause of the zombie apocalypse in Night Of The Living Dead and could be subtly revealing to us the reason for the outbreak in Shaun Of The Dead, whilst also paying another subtle tribute to a classic horror film.
