15 Things You Somehow Missed In Shaun Of The Dead

9. The Winchester In The Winchester

In typically British fashion, when Shaun and Ed learn about the zombie outbreak, they plan to take refuge in the pub and wait for it all to blow over.

Many of the characteristics of The Winchester were inspired by the local pub that Simon Pegg and Nick Frost would frequent in London at the time. This includes the references to the local quiz night that Pegg and Frost would regularly participate in at their local, as well as using the real-life names of the landlord and lady, John and Bernie.

However, the name of the pub comes from the rifle that hangs above the bar and comes into play in the finale of the movie. The weapon in question, which is the same gun that is used in the Night Of The Living Dead movies, is a Winchester rifle, which inspired the name of the pub as well as being yet another nod to the classic horror film.
