15 Upcoming Comic Book Movie Performances That Will Kick Ass

11. Tessa Thompson As Valkyrie

Thor Ragnarok Valkyrie Grandmaster

The Film: Thor: Ragnarok

Having cemented her rising star in both Creed and Selma in 2015, Tessa Thompson has some big projects coming up, what with her MCU schedule and Alex Garland's adaptation of Annihilation.

Next up, she's playing the replacement female lead in the Thor franchise, after the age of Natalie Portman's Jane Foster ended with an uninspiring whimper, and there's a pretty heavy weight of expectation on her shoulders.

Not only will we get the opportunity to see her show her skills in performance, but we'll also hopefully get to see a more complex character for Thor to play off. There's a fairly safe assumption that she's going to be the new love interest (though it's not really necessary), but it seems we're finally looking at a character for whom that's a secondary characteristic, rather than a definitive one. That's a pretty big step forward for Marvel.
