15 Upcoming Horror Films You Should Be Excited About
9. The Green Inferno (September 25)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcpYPu9M3bwEli Roth is one of the most insane horror directors out there. He's been behind movies like Cabin Fever and the Hostel movies, and in his new film, The Green Inferno, a bunch of activists crash in the jungle and get eaten alive.
The film follows a group of students who travel to the Amazon out of a genuine desire to help, but they are soon captured by a tribe of cannibals. There hasn't really been a big cannibal movie in a while, and although you might not have missed that subgenre, Eli Roth hopes to bring it back with The Green Inferno. He named Cannibal Holocaust as a particular influence, and given how that was one of the most disturbing movies ever which generated a tremendous amount of controversy, this should be pretty crazy.
And if you wanted even more controversy, Roth recently said that the movie is partially a response to Internet activism, with the film being about a bunch of so-called "social justice warriors" who get in over their heads. Roth said The Green Inferno is a comment on these types of people but that he's not necessarily making a judgement one way or the other, although having them all get horrifyingly eaten alive certainly seems like one.
