Budget: $50 million (estimated)

After David Fincher's 2011 The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo adaptation underwhelmed at the box office, Columbia Pictures dragged their feet green-lighting a sequel, resulting in this quasi-reboot, reportedly set to star The Crown's Claire Foy.

Though Columbia will be smart to set the budget much lower than Fincher's $90 million thriller, the amount of time that's passed since the last movie and the prospect of Rooney Mara's Lisbeth Salander being recast are sure to dampen a lot of audience enthusiasm.

Plus, the book on which this film will be based received fairly mixed reviews upon release, and being the only Millennium book not written by the late Stieg Larsson, will probably be dismissed by many fans.

Unless Mara does indeed come back, this one's toast.

Estimated Box Office: $80 million
