Though the prospect of a Hugh Jackman-led musical isn't an inherently bad sell by any means, the fact that the P.T. Barnum biopic isn't based on an existing musical will hurt it immeasurably from a marketing perspective.

More to the point, it's releasing within days of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Ferdinand, Jumanji and Pitch Perfect 3, all of which are likely to cannibalise any potential box office momentum.

Unless the reviews are absolutely rapturous there's basically no hope for it, and even then things are looking incredibly dicey.
