Why It's Doomed: Various attempts have been made to get a Gambit movie off the ground over the last few years, with directors Doug Liman and Rupert Wyatt coming close, but Fox has now finally settled on Pirates of the Caribbean filmmaker Gore Verbinski.

Over the summer, the existing script was scrapped and the entire narrative started over, which again suggests a project that's still struggling to find its place within the X-Men universe, especially with Deadpool and Logan significantly changing the game.

Though Channing Tatum is an intriguing, charismatic choice for the superhero role, it's easy to see this one being another mediocre X-Men movie that tries too hard in some areas and not enough in others.
