15 Upcoming Movies That Might Be Surprisingly Awesome
2. Smurfs: The Lost Village
Release Date: April 7, 2017
Why It Should Suck: It's a lazy attempt to reboot The Smurfs after the previous live-action franchise began to falter at the box office, and is written by a committee of five scribes, some of who worked on the horrid likes of I Spy, Guess Who, Norbitt, Zookeeper and, worst of all, the previous Smurfs movies.
Why It Might Be Awesome: On the other hand, it's entirely animated this time with no live-action to speak of, and it's being directed by Kelly Asbury, the man responsible for Shrek 2. Plus, the team of writers are also responsible for some fun movies, such as James and the Giant Peach, Chicken Run, Over the Hedge and The Spiderwick Chronicles, so it's not all bad.
It almost certainly won't be worse than what came before, and with Mandy Patinkin, Joe Manganiello and Rainn Wilson playing Papa Smurf, Hefty Smurf and Gargamel respectively, at least there's some talented actors in the mix.
