15 Upcoming Movies That Might Be Surprisingly Awesome
11. Power Rangers
Release Date: March 24, 2017
Why It Should Suck: A gritty reboot of the classic kids' action series aimed at the teen crowd, directed by Dean Israelite (behind the disappointing Project Almanac), written by a committee of five people (responsible for films such as Agent Cody Banks, Need for Speed, The Last Witch Hunter and Gods of Egypt), boasting a cast of mostly unknown Rangers.
Why It Might Be Awesome: To director Israelite's credit, Project Almanac was a relatively stylish effort so Rangers will probably look nice at least, and the army of writers have also worked on projects such as Thor, X-Men: First Class, The Flash TV series and Flight, so it's not all bad.
Then there's the supporting cast, namely Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa and Bryan freaking Cranston as Zordon, both of whom should give the movie a major charisma boost.
And it's got a $120 million budget, which should result in some nutty set-pieces, and at least suggests that Lionsgate are taking the property somewhat seriously as a potential franchise.
