15 Upcoming Movies That Might Be Surprisingly Awesome
12. Storks
Release Date: September 23
Why It Should Suck: An animated movie revolving around storks and cute babies is right at the top of cynical movie concepts movie studios pull out of their a**es to part audiences with a quick buck, and what's been shown off so far in Warner Bros' surprisingly low-key marketing campaign just looks thoroughly mediocre. The storks deliver packages now, and it's funny, right? Right?
Why It Might Be Awesome: Storks is being co-directed by Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, Neighbors) and Doug Sweetland, a former Pixar animator who directed one of their best shorts to date, the charming Presto which played before WALL-E.
These two honestly sound like a dream pair, and it's possible that because the marketing is trying to skew to the lowest-common denominator audience, that's why the movie seems so underwhelming, when the final product will in fact be much smarter and more daring.
Hell, even if the film does indeed suck, it's got a five-minute Lego Ninjago short before it, so it probably won't be all bad.
