15 Upcoming Movies That Might Be Surprisingly Awesome
10. Ouija: Origin Of Evil
Release Date: October 21
Why It Should Suck: 2014's original movie is one of the most mercilessly bland mainstream horror movies in recent memory, yet it scared up over $100 million on a $5 million budget, so a sequel was always inevitable. Even the "Origin of Evil" title makes it sound like a naff straight-to-video follow-up nobody asked for.
Why It Might Be Awesome: On the other hand, Ouija is being written and directed by Mike Flanagan (Oculus, Hush), one of the most promising rising talents in the horror genre.
The premise, of a scam artist having to face up to the reality of actual supernatural phenomena, is surprisingly interesting, it's got a period 1960s setting far away from the nonsense original, and the cast includes the talented likes of Elizabeth Reaser, horror legend Lin Shaye and master of disguise Doug Jones.
There's almost zero chance of it being worse than the original, but the real shocker here is that it might be an actual, honest-to-God good, even great, movie.
