Why It Should Suck: Though on paper the idea of a horror-themed X-Men movie sounds awesome, especially one co-starring Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy, that generic first trailer didn't exactly inspire much hope, and things have only gotten worse since then.

Originally set to release this past April, The New Mutants has ultimately been delayed by well over a year, allowing writer-director Josh Boone time to re-shoot significant portions of the film in order to make it scarier, after Fox was initially ambivalent about leaning too hard into the horror aspect.

It's rarely a good sign when a tentpole project spends this long in the oven, so it's best to keep your expectations low.

Why It Might Be Awesome: Maybe, just maybe, Fox is allowing Boone to execute his original vision as intended, and as a result this extensive delay could actually lead to a worthwhile film.

Stranger things have happened in Hollywood, and it's certainly preferable to Fox just giving up on the movie and sending it out to die on its original planned date.

The cast seems pretty optimistic about the re-shoots - though they're basically paid to be - so fingers crossed this tinkering actually pays off with the stomach-knotting superhero horror flick these characters deserve.
