Release Date: December 25 (US), February 12, 2016 (UK) Why It Could Suck: It's a remake of the 90s cult classic action flick that's got a place in the hearts of every genre nut the world over. Remaking iconic films is always risky business, especially when the look, feel, music, and hell, even the clothing of the original film is so integral to why people cling to it. Without an A-list actor in sight to fill Keanu Reeves or Patrick Swayze's shoes, why would this be anything other than dead on arrival? The trailers released so far don't inspire much confidence, and the focus on extreme sports feels at least a decade too late. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvKneCIlIVs Why It Might Be Surprisingly Awesome: Never say never, and if the film has anything working in its favour, it's the advances in technology since the 1991 original. The set-pieces can be even more overblown and ridiculous, and hopefully the dubious CGI from the trailers will be tightened up significantly ahead of release. Visually the film looks appealing (cinematography-wise, at least) and Edgar Ramirez is a terrific actor if not a household name yet, so while he faces an impossible task measuring up to Swayze's Bodhi, he could still deliver a memorable interpretation which stands well on its own.
