15 Upcoming Movies That Might Be Surprisingly Awesome
7. Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur
Release Date: July 22, 2016 Why It Could Suck: Because how long has it been since someone actually made a big-budget King Arthur movie worth watching? The Clive Owen one stunk, Guy Ritchie is an incredible hit and miss director, and the screenplay was written by someone whose only claim to fame is a terrible 2007 thriller starring Jessica Alba and Hayden Christensen that you've probably never heard of, let alone seen (Awake). Why It Might Be Surprisingly Awesome: Still, when Ritchie hits a home run, he nails it, and if he can work some of that Sherlock Holmes magic on the classic tale (that is, updating it in a stylish, contemporary way while retaining the period grit), it could be one of next year's most unexpected hits. For one, the cast is excellent, with Charlie Hunnam playing Arthur, while Jude Law, Djimon Hounsou, Eric Bana and Aidan Gillen fill out supporting parts. Plus, one benefit of it following the Clive Owen movie is that unless it's an utter trainwreck, everyone will say, "Well, at least it was better than the last one." It's got good looking actors (hopefully) kicking lots of a** with Ritchie's trademark stylistic bombast likely preventing it from being another moldy fantasy film. What's not to like?
