Release Date: September 16, 2016 Why It Could Suck: The first sequel, 2004's The Edge of Reason, wasn't exactly a sterling endorsement for extending the Bridget Jones brand, and there's every opportunity for this to be yet another arbitrary follow-up made solely for financial purposes, heavily fueled by nostalgia. Why It Might Be Surprisingly Awesome: On the flip-side, the original movie's director, Sharon Maguire, is returning, and it's entirely possible that the 12-year hiatus might actually allow the movie to find the right balance and be nostalgic while also remarking how the world has changed since Bridget's last screen appearance. Plus, the screenplay is being co-written by novelist David Nicholls (Starter for Ten, One Day) and Emma Thompson, so some new voices being thrown into the mix could help the film achieve that mix of humour and heart that made the original such a hit.
