15 Upcoming Movies That Might Be Surprisingly Awesome
9. The Huntsman
Release Date: April 22, 2016 Why It Could Suck: It's a spin-off from a movie that most people thought was just OK at best, and honestly, wasn't the story pretty much finished there? This smacks of a film desperately attempting to cash-in on the fact that Chris Hemsworth is now a household name. Why It Might Be Surprisingly Awesome: While the original movie had some pretty dubious writing credits, this one has managed to rope in industry veteran Frank Darabont (The Green Mile), which is pretty much always a great sign. Plus, Hemsworth is joined by most of the original film's cast (sans Kristen Stewart for obvious reasons) as well as the likes of Jessica Chastain and Emily Blunt, whose track records are for the most part pretty solid in terms of picking decent projects. Plus, seeing Hemsworth Thor-ing it up with an axe instead of a hammer could be a ton of fun. We can practically see the beautifully shot slow-motion swinging axes already, and the film is being directed by the previous film's visual effects supervisor, Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, so he clearly knows a thing or two about keeping this one stylistically consistent with what came before. If it knows exactly what it is and delivers what audiences want, it could be a total blast and easily superior to the original.
