15 Weirdest Movies Of 2016

1. Collateral Beauty

Swiss Army Man Paul Dano Daniel Radcliffe
Warner Bros.

The first trailer for Collateral Beauty spawned mass “WTF” reactions the world over, from people trying to understand how – and more importantly, why – such a piece of sentimental pap was written, greenlit and filmed. Not only that, but how it managed to snag Will Smith, Ed Norton, Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren and Keira Knightley to star in it.

The story has Smith’s depressed architect writing letters to Time, Love and Death after his daughter dies, and they actually turn up to have chats with him. If you think that sounds like sugary, overwrought nonsense, you wouldn’t be far wrong, and while watching all you can think is “why?” Why did anyone think this embarrassing, Oscar-baiting fairytale would work.

Based on the reviews and box-office so far it really didn’t, but the weirdness of it will probably see it become a guilty pleasure watch for viewers in the years to come.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
