The Scene: Annie (Quvenzhané Wallis) is driven off by her "real" parents, though of course, they're really just actors employed by Guy (Bobby Cannavale) to help bolster Will Stacks' (Jamie Foxx) mayoral campaign. As Annie realises what's going on, she posts on her social media accounts for any of her followers who might see her to post pictures on Instagram or Twitter. As various kids see Annie, their pictures are posted and allow Will to geo-locate her, getting in his helicopter and chasing after the car. Following an absurd chase, the car is stopped and the fake parents are arrested. Why It Sucked: For one, the film is just so damn desperate to seem like a hip, up-to-date take on the classic musical, but shoving social media brands down audience's throats just isn't the way to do it. Plus, the idea of tracking someone by location because a bunch of kids happen to see Annie on the road is just freaking ridiculous, and a high-octane chase sequence seems relatively inappropriate for an Annie movie. In short, pretty much every aspect of this scene is totally misjudged and irredeemably terrible.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
