Upon arriving on Faro Island, our two main protagonists are immediately apprehended by the natives and greeted with suspicion. The tribe leader insists that they leave, and it appears that their mission to find and capture the supposed god of Faro Island is over before it started. But of course all it takes is a little taste of advanced civilisation to change their minds; more specifically, cigarettes. Yes, after showing the natives the power of radio, they hand out cigarettes to the entire tribe, who immediately start puffing away like pros. Even the children partake, another little detail that dates the film. And just like that, the natives welcome our heroes with open arms, so long as they dont get eaten by their god of course. Who knew cigarettes were such an effective negotiating tool?
