Critical Consensus: Mile 22 lets the bullets fly -- and not much else -- in a thrill-deficient action thriller whose title proves sadly fitting for a film that feels close to a marathon endurance test.

Mile 22 was one of the most maligned Hollywood films of 2018 and it's pretty hard to see why.

Sure, the script is hit-or-miss, the editing is terrible, the protagonist is annoying and Rhonda Rousey's performance is dreadful, but as generic Hollywood action thrillers go... you know what, this ain't half bad.

The plot and premise are suspenseful and reasonably engaging, the East Asian location sets it apart from similar action films, the violence is hard-hitting and wonderfully brutal and The Raid's Iko Uwais gives a great performance and brings a lot to the movie.

Best of all, it all leads up to a very entertaining and crazy plot twist that actually works, which is refreshing since most plot twists in recent Hollywood blockbusters have been awful.

Mile 22 certainly isn't anything special, but the reviews really blew the film's flaws out of proportion.
