16 Deleted Comic Book Movie Scenes You're Not Allowed To See

6. Riddler Gets Brutal - Batman Forever

The Riddler Batman Forever
Warner Bros.

Batman Forever went through a considerable number of cuts and edits before it actually made it to cinema (which we should probably have all taken as an indication of the inherent problems in Joel Schumacher's relationship with Warner Bros) and most of them have made it out in some way (mostly as raw footage on the DVDs).

But one moment that didn't make it onto the list of Special Features added a more sadistic side to The Riddler well before he is seen completely losing the plot. There's a scene in the film that sees him learning how to punch from Two Face (and failing spectacularly), but the original cut had Nygma exacting some "revenge" on the guard he couldn't knock out, by savagely thrashing him with his cane.

The barbaric switch was a little out of character, to say the least.

Why It Was Cut

Without any studio comment on the specific scene, you have to consider the characterisation: the darker violence simply didn't fit in with Warner Bros' more comedic approach to the character (or there desire to sell more toys).

The fact that it's still missing, despite how much of the cut material you can watch is pretty confusing.
